How to Operate Your Swivel Seat

Using your new swivel is straightforward. For safe and smooth operation, simply follow these steps:

  1. First, ensure the engine is off and the van is securely in gear.
  2. Temporarily release the handbrake to provide clearance for the rotation.
  3. Rotate the seat until it faces the rear of the van.
  4. Finally, re-engage the handbrake securely.

Pro Tip: For seats with height adjustment, you may need to pump the seat up slightly to allow the plastic trims to clear the base during rotation.

  • Mercedes Sprinter (2019+): Please note, the driver’s side swivel for the M907 model is not compatible with a double passenger seat setup.
  • Our Transit Custom Driver swivel 2013-2022 V362 is also suitable for the Ford Transit 2014+ V363
  • Handbrake Cover: On some models, the bulky plastic handbrake cover can obstruct the swivel’s path. This may need to be removed and replaced with our flexible fabric slip-on cover (available separately).
  • Availability: Swivels are available for driver and passenger sides, in both single and double seat configurations where applicable.

What is a swivel seat base?
The swivel plates enable a fixed van seat to turn and face into the van. Ranging from 21mm to 43mm in thickness, these plates are fitted between the rails of your OEM seat and the seat itself.
When facing forward the seat and the swivel is safely locked in place. When you are camping you can swivel round to face into the van, which works really well when you are dining or just conversing. You would also use this method to create part of a bed when used in conjunction with RIB Neptune seats.

Can you convert van seats to swivel?
The list of vans that have had swivels developed for them continues to grow year on year. By far the most popular are for the VW, Mercedes and Ford vehicles, but you can also find them for Nissan, Citroen and many more. If you don’t see your vehicle in the list please get in touch, just because we don’t stock it doesn’t mean we couldn’t order it in for you.

Are swivel seats safe?
Yes, the swivels that we sell are European TUV approved and in a lot of cases are also crash tested.

How do van swivel seats work?
The swivel itself is fitted between the slider rails and the seat, once mounted, the seat can be replaced. In most cases its simply using the handle to unlock and rotate the seat. Different vehicles may have different requirements or some extra steps, in some cases you may need to lower the handbrake or even replace it entirely, please ensure you check before making a purchase to ensure that its suitable and you are happy with how it would operate in your van.

What are the benefits of a swivel seat in a van?
We think the key benefits are firstly that when you are camping there is room for everyone. Being able to turn the driver and passenger seats offers 2 or 3 more seats in your ‘dining area’, making for a much more sociable and inviting environment. Secondly, to be able to use the RIB Neptune bed you must swivel the front seat, this then acts as the third cushion to create your full-length bed.

Can you travel with a van seat swivel?
Yes, the swivels are tested to ensure they are safe when travelling. Seats must be forward facing when the van is in motion.

What does double swivel mean?
A double swivel is a great option for people who have a double size passenger seat for 2 people. You could replace this seat for a single captains seat if you preferred, but if you want your double passenger seat to turn, this is exactly what you are looking. At the time of writing there are only 2 or 3 tested and safe double passenger swivels on the market.

Can you swivel a double seat?
Yes, similar to the driver’s seat, with the use of a double swivel plate, you will be able to turn the entire 2-seater around. There are a few different methods for how exactly this is achieved so make sure you have done you research before you commit to purchasing.
