As we continue to adapt and change our campervan seating advice, please feel free to get in touch with any questions you might have that isnt covered in the FAQ.
Making the right choices in the first instance is the most important part of choosing your seating system. The right seating system will ensure a smooth and simple fitting process, save you money and, of course, look great.

Take some time now to work through our guide to help identify which seating system will be suitable for your conversion, this guide is intended as exactly that, to guide you, you may of course be creating a very bespoke build and therefore may want to ignore the advice given in this guide, feel free, we support creative self-builders and would love to see your designs with our seats.

Please bear in mind, that although we continue to work hard on understanding and advising on all combinations of vans and seats there are still a few that elude us. We continue to work hard on updating this guide.

We will also happily accept any feedback on your own seat and fitting experiences you may have had that may contribute to our Campervan Seating advice and help our fellow converters.

Product Questions

The T5 and T6 are the most common vehicles used for Camper Conversions currently. The RIB seat is standard for these vehicles and you will need just a standard height frame and then your choice of extras and upholstery. For most versions of these vehicles fitting is straightforward but be aware that if you have a Kombi or Caravelle, there is extra work to consider. Kombi: You will need to remove the original seats and also remove any fixings prior to being able to fit your RIB seat. Caravelle: Although great vans, the Caravelle poses the most problems when it comes to fitting. With all the extra panelling, heating, and electrics etc it is near impossible to fit RIB seats without first removing all of these extras, including the panels and essentially making this just a panel van, think long and hard before paying extra for a Caravelle if you intend to convert the van. The final decisions to make then revolve around your personal choices, whether you want a slider for example, is not a choice that will affect the fitting, just its use, then pick your upholstery and your ready to go.

As the Transit Custom becomes more and more popular, we field more questions about the ability to adapt and convert these vehicles. When it comes to the seats though there is one big watch out. The internal wheel-arch height in a Custom is taller than the standard frame height of a RIB seat, this means that you will need some way of raising the frame? We decided that we could not stock a third variation of the frame and so developed the raiser frames for the Transit Custom. These box sections match the footprint of the RIB frame and are powder coated and pre-drilled to ensure this does not look out of place once fitted, this also does not affect the safety of the fitment or it’s certification. The rest of the options are then down to your own personal choice, slider, colour and size etc. The Custom is slightly wider than a standard T5/T6 and so means more room for your conversion, giving more options on seat and conversion combinations. As with the T5/T6 range, if the vehicle is of the Kombi or Tourneo range, please bear in mind the additional work required to ensure you can fit the seat.

Added 08.04.25 – In the last 12 months or so we have personally opted for fitting the 112cm RIB seat off the passenger wall by about 6cm, although this leaves a small gap it does mean we dont need to raise the seat up any further and can instead just use the more standard 330mm frames, enjoying more headroom. The knock on affect is less room down the driver side for your unit but we have found that with the additional internal width the Transit Custom offers, this isnt a problem and actually the trade off is worth it.

The Vivaro/Trafic range, pre 2014 still continue to be a great alternative vehicle for conversions and seat/bed fitting. Typically, the old shape version has lower wheel-arches which means you can use a reduced height frame on your RIB seat (310mm) allowing extra headroom for you. Other than that, no concerns for fitting to these vehicles, just choose you extras and your upholstery. Although we dont personally have much experience in the newer versions and shapes we are dealing with numerous traders who are fitting RIB beds in these vehicles regularly. If you wish to check if your vehicle is compatible, please get in touch.

Please refer to our guide for ensuring you get the right seat.

There are more seat manufacturers in the industry now, than there has ever been. We have always stocked RIB seats as these have a very strong reputation for both safety and style. We have in the past stocked other Rock and Roll bed ranges but over time have found that for the price, the RIB beds just cant be beaten. In the last 12 months we have introduced new ranges, new fabrics and the second version of our GlideMotion, all using the RIB beds. There are plenty of good quality Rock and Roll bed suppliers out there, just ensure the correct certification when you buy.
