If you’ve been looking at the new VW Transporter T7 or the 2024+ Ford Transit Custom, you already know they are game changers for the campervan world. Naturally, everyone wants to know: “Can I fit a Scopema RIB bed in there?”
The short answer is yes, but the long answer involves some very important facts about safety, testing, and what is legal on the road today. There is a lot of “grey area” information circulating right now, and we want to ensure customers are well-informed.
🛑 The “M1 Tested” Myth
You may have seen “T7 Fitting Kits” popping up online recently. Many customers assume that if a kit is being sold for a specific vehicle, it has been crash-tested for that vehicle.
Here is the reality: We have spoken directly with many of these vendors, and they are refreshingly honest when asked—most of these kits have NOT been M1 crash-tested. * Why does this matter? A “pull test” (M1 certification) isn’t just about the seat; it’s about how that seat is anchored to the specific floor structure of the van. The T7 and the new Transit Custom have completely different chassis layouts than the older T6 or Mk1 Custom. Using an untested plate means you have no verified data on how that seat will behave in an accident.
🛠️ What is “MOT Compliant” vs. “M1 Tested”?
Currently, in the UK, if you want to fit a RIB bed into these new models today, most installations fall under the MOT Compliant category.
- MOT Compliant: The seat is securely fixed and the seatbelts function correctly. It will pass a standard MOT.
- M1 Tested: The installation has been subjected to a simulated 30mph crash (a pull test) and passed with certification. This is the “Gold Standard” for safety and insurance.
✨ The Good News: We’ve Done the Hard Work!
At campervanseating.uk, we haven’t just been waiting for others to solve this. We have been quietly developing and—crucially—successfully testing a bespoke fitting plate designed specifically for the T7 and New Transit Custom.
We are proud to announce that our new fitting plate is officially M1 Tested and Certified for all RIB beds in these vehicles.
We are currently moving into the mass production phase. It will likely be about 8 weeks before these plates are available for general sale on the site. We believe in doing it right rather than doing it fast, ensuring that when you buy from us, you’re buying proven safety.
🚀 Need an M1 Solution Right Now?
If you can’t wait 8 weeks and need a fully certified, M1-tested seating solution for your new T7 or Transit Custom today, we have the answer:
Our GlideMotion EZFit system is already fully tested and compatible with these new models. Because the GlideMotion system uses its own tested rail-to-chassis integration, it bypasses the need for a standalone fitting plate while giving you the added benefit of being able to slide your seat the full length of the van.
Summary: Look Before You Bolt
Before you purchase a fitting kit for your new-gen van, ask the seller one simple question: “Can you provide the M1 test certificate for this specific vehicle?”
If they can’t, you are potentially compromising on safety. We are committed to transparency, and we can’t wait to bring our certified mass-production plates to you very soon.
